David founded Martin Branding in 1999 after founding and managing several other marketing communication firms, including The Martin Agency, today considered one of the best advertising agencies in the world. Having developed and refined Martin Branding’s core process over the course of his legendary career, he is intimately involved in ensuring all marketing programs and creative executions for Martin Branding’s clients stay focused on the one core attribute that makes a brand great.
During his long career, David has conceived and developed dozens of branding campaigns in every conceivable industry category; having first rose to national prominence with the “Virginia Is For Lovers” campaign that transformed Virginia into one of America’s top tourist destinations and has become one of the most enduring and successful tourism brands ever created. He is the author of Romancing The Brand: The Power of Advertising and How To Use It, as well as Be The Brand: How To Find A Powerful Identity And Use It To Drive Sales, which shows how an organization’s culture and vision coupled with consumer insight drives the way a brand is produced, positioned, marketed and perceived.
David is popular speaker and lecturer, who has appeared on numerous television business news shows including The Today Show and CNBC, and his advice is regularly sought out by corporate and marketing industry leaders. Martin is a graduate and former trustee of Hampden-Sydney College and has been inducted into the Virginia Communications Hall of Fame and the Richmond Business Hall of Fame.
